Wait & load service in Kent — what does it cost and how does it work?
Wait and load in Kent costs £400 for a full 12-cubic-yard van with the crew waiting on site for up to an hour. It replaces skip hire without needing a council permit, because the vehicle stays attended on the highway for the duration of the load.

What wait & load service means
Wait and load is a service where a licensed waste vehicle and crew arrive at an agreed time and remain on site while waste is loaded, then leave immediately. Because the vehicle is attended it does not require the highway permit a skip needs.
Skips on Kent's residential streets are a bureaucratic headache. Every district council runs its own permit scheme, most want several working days' notice, and a permit for a conservation area street in Tunbridge Wells or Faversham can take longer still. A wait-and-load van sidesteps the whole process.
It also solves the security problem. An unattended skip on a public road collects other people's waste overnight — and legally that becomes your waste, on your permit. Nothing gets fly-tipped into a van that leaves within the hour.
Key takeaways
- No council skip permit required because the vehicle stays attended
- Typically on site for 30-60 minutes rather than days
- You load, we load, or both — the price is the same
- No risk of neighbours adding waste to your container overnight
What is included
- Van and two-person crew on site for up to one hour
- Optional crew loading at no extra cost within the hour
- Immediate removal and transfer note within 24 hours
- Timed arrival slots to fit around trades on site

Why no permit is needed
Under the Highways Act 1980 a skip placed on a public highway requires a permit from the local highway authority — in Kent that is Kent County Council working through the district councils. An attended vehicle loading waste is treated as a normal loading operation, not a deposited container, so no permit applies. Loading must still not obstruct the footway, and we position cones and wear high-visibility clothing on every job.
