What sofa removal means
Sofa removal is the collection and compliant disposal of upholstered seating. Since 2023 the Environment Agency has classified domestic upholstered seating as waste containing persistent organic pollutants, which must be stored, transported and destroyed separately from other household waste.
Sofas are the single most misunderstood item in UK waste. Since the Environment Agency's 2023 guidance, any domestic upholstered seat — sofas, armchairs, footstools, beanbags, office chairs with padding — must be kept out of mixed loads because the flame retardants in the foam and fabric are persistent organic pollutants.
Plenty of cheap collectors still throw sofas in with general waste. If that load is traced back to your address, you are the waste producer. We load POPs items separately, record them on the transfer note by description and count, and deliver them to a permitted incineration facility.
